Welcome back Chihuahua Town residents! It has been a busy old weekend, where yet again I managed to enter two shows in the same weekend. Just under two weeks to go to Crufts and we’re well and truly into preparations. Many a conversation was had at shows this weekend about outfits. I’ve got my new shoes so will be spending the next week breaking them in. Steve Rooney had on particularly snazzy pair of shoes this weekend, and naturally I enquired as to whether they would be putting in an appearance at Crufts. “What these old things?” was the reply! Are you a ‘buy a new outfit’ exhibitor, or a ‘I’ll see what falls out of the wardrobe’ exhibitor?
Sunday was the Chihuahua Club of South Wales Championship Show; longs judged by Dorothy Entwhistle and smooths by Kevan Berry. There was lots of celebrating of Crufts 2019 qualifications. BIS was Amanda Jacks’ Ch Amarose Tink Attitude, who won the Bitch CC out of Veteran. RBIS was Jill Palmer and Willy Heap’s Ch Penapetit Platinum (longcoat Dog CC winner), BPIS was Sharon Robson’s Rushwardens Ultraviolet of Tidos NAF TAF (also longcoat RBCC) and RBPIS Sandra Stangoes’s Stanghurst High Time. Longcoat bitch CC winner was Sharon Robson’s Ch Go My Way JP’s Black Cherry Imp Jap and RDCC went to Sue Lee’s Ridgehawk Fred’s Legacy. Smoothcoat Dog CC winner was Emma Huntley’s Jahneemahs Look At Me JW, RDCC was S Facey’s Copymear Calendar Boy. The committee put on free coffee and tea throughout the day and a fabulous buffet, which went down a storm with exhibitors!
This weekend was a busy one for open shows. At Sutton Coldfield, my boy Isaac went BOB, BPIB and PG3 in longs. In Smooths, Sandra Stangoe’s Stanghurst Strike a Pose took BOB and Julieta Vaitekunaite’s Gelato Monte De Cavalier took RBOB and BPIB. At Newark and District Sharon Webber’s Doobyave Careless Whispers At Serpentis went BOB and Wendy Turnbull’s Somergemz Warrior Princess for Hurascalexi went RBOB, BPIB and PG3 in longs. In smooths Emma Huntley’s Jahneemahs Look At Me JW went BOB and G2. At Caernafon Leana Evans’ Ritagold Ice Warrior At Lemaritz went BOB and G4 in smooths. In longs, Leana’s Lemaritz Soul Survivor went BOB, G2 and gained his past two points for his ShCM. At Kent County Clare White’s Lexie went BOB and G4 and Ruby RBOB under Clive Jones. At Blackpool and Fylde Lee Humphrey’s Amarantos Tobin went BOB in longs, and her new smooth coat puppy (whose name is currently unknown to me!) went BPIB then RBPIS. At Catrine Leah Todd-McCoid’s Tinasjoy Georgia At Rubyanlo went BOB. At Billingham Rachael Stirzaker’s Ameliachi Making Memories went BOB and gained his last JW point.
Across the water in Ireland, Eva Clarke’s Lestatt Picasso went BD and RBOB at the Irish Toy Dog Society. He then went on to take BD and BOB at the All Terrier Association. Further afield in Spain, George Apostolos’ Drago, who is well known at UK shows, took CAC and BOB at the National Show, and CAC, CACIC, BOB and BOG3 at the International Show the following day. Now I just need to learn how these CACs work.
Now this week has some very cold and wintry weather forecast. A reminder that if you are out walking your dogs along pavements, the salt used to grit the roads is poisonous to dogs. Give their little paws a wash with some warm water when you get home to keep them safe.
I thought this week I might tell you all about my little tri colour, Lottie. She is oversize and undershot with a low tail set; show quality she is not. She is, however, a superstar at obedience. She tried her paw at agility, but that was a bit too much like effort, and she’s not so keen on the cold and the wet (we are fairweather agility people), so a nice indoor obedience class is more her bag. Her off lead heel work is spectacular. Her recalls are flawless. She can do an out of sight down stay like a pro. But can I get her to understand the concept of personal space? No, I cannot. When I’ve worked out how to train that one, I’ll let you know.
Next weekend I’m off to a lovely local limit show to get in a bit of practice before Crufts. I know the show results won’t be as exciting next weekend as The Big One the weekend after, but let me know anyway – and if you tell me in person, make sure I write it down; I have the memory span of goldfish.
And in the word of a famous rabbit, “That’s All Folks!” (until next week anyway).
