Well that is January nearly over, and apart from being wet hasn’t been as cold as usual, the dogs enjoy that as it means they can go out running first thing rather than waiting for the frost to disperse! Boston held its championship show at the beginning of the month, no CCs for greyhounds on offer but we had classes judged by Mrs Diane Cook. Mrs Cook has been on the clubs judging list for many years so it was nice to see her judging the breed and she had a respectable entry of 13, with only one absent on the day. Best dog was Adele Thompsons Puppy Eyes at Muicks with Helen Sawyers Jaxx Teller at Stonelow reserve best dog. Best bitch and BOB was Ina’s Fashion Design by Boughton owned by Ina Koulermou and Clare Boggia with reserve going to Denise Garrett and Sharon Oakeys Inchidoney memories Oh My God with Caryna. The BOB made the shortlist in the group. I personally like the showground at Peterborough, nice big park all tarmacked, easy flat path into the hall and the hall light and warm.
It was then onto Manchester the following week who holds its show at Staffordshire show ground where the judge was Mr Jeff Horswell. He had an entry of 17, with 5 being absent. The journey into the show ground was very slow, in part due to the waterlogged fields at the venue and parking having to be on the tarmacked areas only, lucky we were third in as I queued for a good twenty minutes plus to get in, and that was after a slow trip through the roadworks on the motorway just before the turn off to the venue. This year we were not in the main hall, and we had a reasonable size ring, and the hall much lighter. Divya Wueger made the trip over again from Germany with three dogs and had a fantastic day winning best dog and BOB with her nine month old brindle Estet Classic Spring Rain, he also won the Hound Puppy group under Mr Mark Cocozza. Divya had a flight back to Austria so did not get to see the group where ‘Rain’ was shown by her travel companion. Unfortunately they were unable to stay for the final day of judging. Divya also won reserve best dog with Lux, Ger, Swiss, Aust Ch Fortheringhay’s Above and Be . In bitchs Ina’s Fashion Design by Boughton won the bitch CC and reserve was Kraaushaar Neurang and Wuegers Fortheringhays Amazing Grace.
Away from the breed ring at Manchester Michelle West took ‘Rupert’, Windspiel Northern Stroler to Gemsbok to do his good citizens, and he passed with flying colours – well done Michelle and Rupert. Denise Garret put on a lovely birthday surprise with drinks and treats for Sharon Oakeys special birthday at the Saluki ring – so belated Happy Birthday Sharon!
Members of the greyhound club should have all had their AGM paperwork by now – please do send in nominations for committee or judges for the open and championship show. Don’t forget you need who you are nominating to send a letter to the secretary to say they are happy to be nominated as well as a proposer and seconder. Any queries please give the secretary Julie Mckenzie a ring.
