Last week saw the 75th anniversary of City of Birmingham Championship show and the team involved certainly went that extra mile for their exhibitors. It was lovely that all the rings were carpeted, even in the ‘cattle sheds’. The main ring looked super with its white wicket fencing and circus like ribbons in the ceiling area. There were various photo booths around the venue all tastefully decorated. Our judge for the day was specialist Ian Bond who was judging greyhounds for the 10th time. We were second in the ring so nice not to be rushing round the motorway network at rush hour! Winner had medals presented rather than the usual rosettes to make it more memorable.
Ian found his BOB and BCC in Elaine Newham’s Ch. Europa Decuma via Windspeil (imp)handled as usual by Bob. What a thrill for Bob and Elaine as they then went onto win the Hound group under judge Jenny Startup. Bob was presented in the ring with a super engraved glass bowl for winning the group – this had all the breeds from the group engrave on it – what a lovely memento of their special day. The DCC and RBOB was Maggie Holder and Dave Howe’s Ch. Boughton Blakeney ShCM, what a run he is having too three shows in veteran and a CC and 2 RCC. Blakey too had a very credible 3rd place in the veteran group under judge Steve Hall. RDCC went to Andrews Spurrs’ Grand Cru Pierro for Suttonelms (Imp) and RBCC went to Ina Koulermou and my Ina’s Fashion Design for Boughton (Imp) Helen and Claire Rishworth’s Out Of The Blue Ad Honores (Imp) won another best Puppy award to her tally.
Sheena Clarke told me she attended a greyhound gathering show where there were 20 greyhound classes, all in aid of Homes for Homes, a Nottingham based charity. Sheena’s new boy, Wachovia Benjy won Best dog and BIS under judge Alison harper – wonderful win, and Adele Thompsons Ooaar Nicolar at Muicks was best bitch – well done to both ladies.
I did put this in last weeks notes but for some reason dropped off the published notes?! Perri, Grand Cru Pierro at Suttonelms becomes , I believe, the first greyhound to achieve the Show Certificate of Excellence (ShCEx) – a wonderful achievement, so well done to Andrea, Perri and his breeder Melanie Steele. This award is one of the newer initiatives from the KC and points could be claimed from January 2018 onwards. You apparently need 50 points and these can be claimed from general or group open shows and the dog must be over 18 months to collect points.
For anyone going to either Richmond or Darlington, there will be researchers present wearing ID badges working on behalf of the KC seeking everyone’s opinion of the JCF. Do seek them out if you are going so that everyone’s view can be taken on board when deciding the final outcome.
I have had a couple of people respond to say they would be interested in doing the bronze Good citizens award at one of our shows, following on from Kathy Spacey’s recent achievement with Mr P. I will take this back to the next club committee meeting at the beginning of October, if there are any others out there do let me know.
Going back to Bob and Elaine’s special win, got me thinking I wonder how many different greyhounds over the years have won a hound group? Does anyone out there know?
