Sorry for no notes last week, will try to catch up here! After all the hot weather we had been having, Leeds was mercifully cooler. Well known hound specialist Jenny Startup was judging our breed and she had 19 dogs entered with only one absent. There was a reasonable wait for judging as we were third in the ring, but still in plenty of time for the group. DCC and Best of Breed was Lyndsey and Cara McLaughan’s Ch Boughton Balance Of Power At Azrams. This was his eight CC understand. The last time Jenny judged ‘George’ won the RCC First time out in veteran, and awarded the Reserve Dog CC and best veteran was Maggie Holder and Dave Howes Ch Boughton Blakeney Sh.CM. Sadly she could not stay for the group. Bob and Elaine Newsham had a lovely day as they won both the Bitch CC and Reserve BCC with CH Europa Decuma Via Windspiel (Imp) (Bob handling) and Windspiel Northern Stilo (Elaine handling) respectively. Well done! Only the one puppy entered and this was the blue bitch, Nordic Queen owned by Mrs K Nutter. Nordic Queen also won best special beginner so what a debut for her owner. Away from the breed ring Kathy Spacey and ‘Mr P’ won a very respectable 3rd in the Pets as Therapy Stakes under Mr Albert Wight.
Last weekend was the world famous Donaueschingen sight hound festival in south Germany where at the Saturday show Mrs Kari Juto Hedberg from Sweden. She choose Multi Ch Sobers Xtravaganza, as her BOB , owned by Bitte Ahrens and Pieri Primavera, who then went onto BIS under sight hound expert Mr Gabriel Valdez from Brazil. On day two ‘Ginger’ was BOB again under Evelyn Kirsch from Germany and then won BIS group 3. In the supreme final, Ginger was crowned Supreme Best in Show – what a great achievement, so many congratulations to all concerned. There were some really charming pictures on Facebook of the family celebrating together.
I saw on Facebook that Claire Millwards’ Parker, got badly bitten at Leeds , maybe by horse flies, causing a severe allergic reaction, resulting in veterinary treatment . Allergic reactions can be so severe and so quick, so I am sure this was very frightening for all concerned. It was so good to see pictures of Parker running around again on Facebook this week and I am sure a huge relief for Claire, Liz, Mia and Lynda. However, this is a salient reminder to us, as all to ensure we are all up to date with our dog first aid skills and carry an up-to-date first aid box. I know after this event I checked my antihistamines that I carry and they were two years out of date so do go and check yours now!
Kathy Spacey sent me some news that she and ‘Mr P’, Inchydoney Memories North Star at Hallimans (Imp France) went to Kirkcaldy and District Open show at the weekend and won RBIS. What a lucky show this is for Kathy as she won BIS there last year – well done! Also out at this show was Liz McKnight’s and Jerry Robertson’s new puppy – no not a greyhound but a smooth fox terrier, so a little different! Anyway ‘Ronnie’ did really well and won best special minor puppy in show and best special puppy in show under Edward McKenzie.
Fast forward to Paignton championship show – no CCs on offer for greyhounds but classes where the judge was Mrs J Cooper. Sadly only three entries. BOB was Roisin Howlett, Clare Boggia and Ina Koulermou’s Ch Ina’s Fashion Dedicated to Boughton (Imp). Best Puppy was Claire and Helen Rishworths’ Out Of The Blue Ad Honores (Imp) Fra. South West hound hold a back to back show with Paignton and the judge here was Mrs K Bartolo who awarded my and Ina Koulermou’s Inas Fashion Design at Boughton (Imp) best of breed and she later won BIS Gp 4 under Helen Wayman. Best puppy was Claire and Helen Rishworths’ Out Of The Blue Ad Honores (Imp) Fra.
All members by now should have received their Open Show schedules, if not do contact Julie Mackenzie . This will be a very busy show with the breed appreciation day in the morning, so any offers of help I am sure will be most welcome – let Julie know. Lastly a last reminder to anyone who has not completed the heart survey that was given out at the championship show, please do so asap and return to me so that the data can be collated. If you do not have a form and wish for one let me or Julie know. The deadline for this is 18th August.
