The show year kicked off in earnest on the 10th of March with Crufts. There was an entry of 247 dogs (36 absentees), making the total number of pugs in attendance 211 on the day. The Dog judge was Barrie Welham (Barryann), and the Bitch Judge Amanda Ellis (Eastonite).
The DCC went to Kath Storey’s CH Rhodenash Kotten Klyde JW, and the RDCC went to Hills CH/LUX CH Calaquendi Nebuchadnezzar, JW SH CM. In bitches the BCC went to Susanne Larson of Sweden’s with INT/SU/DK/FIN/EE/L/NORDU/SL CH Zuma’s Lips N’ Hips (ATC AU00534SWE). History was made on the day as she was the first black bitch ever to win a CC at Crufts The RBCC went to Crissam Highland Heather, bred and owned by Colette Nisbett from Scotland.
The referee, Irene McManus was called into the ring for Best of Breed, which she awarded to the dog, CH Rhodenash Kotten Klyde, JW. Ms McManus later went on to short list Kotten Klyde in the Toy Group.
Best Puppy in Breed went to the bitch, Roxmarr Heart of Glass at Flashnik, owned by Nikki Cannon, from Merseyside and bred by Cath While from Wales.
Best Veteran in Breed went to Stazey Hawes and Louise Brooks-Lowe’s homebred dog CH Pugalicious Provocateur JW.
Irish Pugs owned and bred pugs who attended Crufts did rather well. William & Carey Dickson’s dog Briddish Roll em High for Beltoy, who was handled by Katrina Kenyon (nee Blore) on the day, won Post- Graduate Dog. In bitches Moira Grant- Cooks homebred girl Kerronmor Wings of an Angel Jun Ch, won yearling Bitch.
Clodana Mischief Managed for Macmoore (IKC) bred by Clodagh and Orna Fallon (Dublin), and ownded by Gillian & George McAleney won Puppy Bitch, and Glenalua I’m Meryl, bred by Gillian Stewart (Wicklow), and owned by Maureen Lee won Mid- Limit Bitch.
