Richmond Championship Show unfortunately lost tickets for our breed following the reallocation. Early in the year it appeared we had also lost the classes but this was not the case when the schedule came out. Mrs Jill Peak had only drawn an entry of 2, but they certainly made their presence felt. Both dogs entered were my own; BD and Best Veteran was Ch Brakemill Barnum SHCM and BB and BOB was Ch Verumamicus Aurora Of Brakemill JW.
Barnum took 4th in the KC Good Citizens Stakes under judge Marion M Waddell (Magregor) and Aurora took 3rd in the Yearling stakes under judge Carlos Saevich.
Aurora went on to win the Terrier Group under judge Mr Geoff Corish (Sealaw).
Not knowing what some Group Judges know or what they are looking for, I was later told that Geoff Corish has actually handled Skyes in the past. He handled Ch Acheo Somerled and Int Ch Acheo Alice Springs back in the 1980’s. Geoff later went on to award tickets in the breed the last occasion being at Crufts 2011 where his tickets went to Ch Salena Black Shadow and Ch Azrakhan Capercaillie SHCM.
Lochaber & District Canine Society held their Silver Anniversary Show on the same week-end. Judge Mr Albert Wight (Shenval) awarded Best AVNSC Terrier and Group 2 to Gallondean Foreign Spirit SHCM owned by Moira Barrass.
Our next show is Darlington where Mr Tom Mather is judging the breed with CC’s. He has drawn an entry of 16 dogs. Hopefully I will make it this time as he last judged the breed at LKA and many of us, me included were snowed in. The following week is Driffield with Mr Bob Blackley judging without tickets. Unfortunately he has only drawn an entry of 4 dogs. I have noticed this year that the entries have been getting lower. I don’t know if this is due to entry costs rising. Midland Counties however have not increased the cost of entries for 9 years and give fantastic prize money for stakes classes.
